Kolomna

Boutique Hotel

Hotel in a Late 18th–Early 19th-Century Residential House

In the process of restoration

History

The building is located in Vodovozny Lane,
one of the valuable fragments of the ancient planning system of Kolomna Posad, which has preserved the orientation and winding character of the city’s
pre-Catherine urban structure. The object is already marked on the 1778 plan of Kolomna drawn up
by M. F. Kazakov: the stone house is shown in its original dimensions, extended along the red line of the lane. Researchers attribute it to the few surviving stone buildings of the third quarter of the 18th century, which makes it possible to associate the early history
of the property with Kolomna’s prosperous
merchant milieu.

The building has three construction periods. Its main southern part was built in the middle or third quarter
of the 18th century. In the first half of the 19th century,
the building was reconstructed: the original volume was enlarged with a large two-storey extension at the northern end. The façades were altered: the size and shape
of the windows were changed, the Baroque window surrounds were chiselled off, and the walls were plastered. Apparently, in the 20th century, the building was extended along its entire length with a large two-storey stone addition.

Until the 1970s, the building served as a residential house, inhabited by 13 people. In the following years, however, it fell into disrepair and ceased to be used for its original purpose. The building’s condition deteriorated due to
a lack of regular maintenance, and today special attention is required to restore its historic appearance.

Concept

The historic building, combining features of two different styles, will become aunique union of past and present thanks to a new capital construction object that will increase the building’s space and functionality.

This project not only brings to life the bureau’s goals of preserving historic heritage, but also demonstrates the importance of cultural heritage preservation for future generations. The new boutique hotel function will give contemporary visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of the past,
created through architecture and interior design.
